Sindh Assembly on Monday adopted a condemnation resolution that has demanded that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif be made accountable for his 'anti-Pakistan' remarks in which he tried to implicate the country in Mumbai terror attack of 2008.
The resolution drew support from all parties, including the ruling PPP, MQM, PSP, PML-F, and PTI with the exception of PML-N. The resolution called Nawaz's statement 'very irresponsible' that hurt feelings of the nation that struggled to defeat terrorism on its soil.
"This house condemns Mian Nawaz Sharif's anti-Pakistan remarks regarding involvement of Pakistan in Mumbai attacks. His remarks hurt the feelings of Pakistani people who have struggled against terrorism. Nawaz Sharif's statement has damaged Pakistan's image in the world as a victim of terrorism," it read.
Sindh Assembly resolved that no person should be allowed to malign Pakistan and the struggle of its people against terrorism. It said Nawaz Sharif acted very irresponsibly and should be made answerable for this act. However the PML-N legislators abstained.
The house also opened its debate on the fiscal budget for 2018-19, as opposition criticized the ruling PPP for its 'failure' to solve the public issues during its 10-year rule in the province. MQM's Jamal Ahmed said that Karachiites were longing for a single drop of potable water. He said poor performance itself deny provincial government's tall-claims on public welfare. He said the government had approved uplift schemes for his constituency but none has been executed so far.
PPP's lady legislator, Khairunnissa Mughal complained that entire province has no sports stadium as she ignored scores of such facilities including few of international standards in Karachi. He also clamored that Mirpurkhas lacked a university to impart education to the youth.
She claimed that her party's government worked hard round the clock for the public welfare, saying that a project is under way to provide clean drinking water to 7,000 villages in the province. "The public always gives mandate to the PPP," she said.
PML-F's Saeed Khan Nizamani criticized the PPP for 'corruption' which, he said, badly affected the local government department the most. He said public money is splurged in the name of broom without cleaning the city. He demanded an operation against corruption in Sindh in line with the one carried out against terrorism such as Raddul Fasaad. He coined a name to the proposed operation as 'Raddul Corruption.' Mehmood Abdul Razzaq who defected from MQM to PSO lauded former City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal for developing Karachi's infrastructure and keeping it clean hygienically. He said all the visible mega projects, which the city has, were developed by Kamal while serving Karachi as mayor. He said the PPP government has failed to carry out development in the city.
PPP's Ghazal Siyal slammed Nawaz Sharif for 'burdening' the country with huge borrowings that changed the overall situation. She blamed the former premier and his sons for 'mega corruption,' saying that Nawaz Sharif is criticising the NAB which he had set up. She called Nawaz Sharif 'Mughal-e-Azam.'
The journalists staged a protest in the assembly's media galleries against the Karachi Commissioner for 'misbehaving' with newsmen last week. They asked the government to stop ignoring the journalists' legitimate demands. They demanded action be taken against the commissioner. The house stands adjourned till Tuesday morning to continue budget debate.
