The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Saturday sealed 37 ice manufacturing factories and imposed heavy penalties on 67 others across the province on charges of using rusty and unhygienic ice blocks and absence of RO reverse osmosis filters. DG PFA Noor-ul-Amin Mengal told media persons that the teams checked 546 ice manufacturing facilities and sealed 37 others on the charges of employing workers without medical fitness certificates, absence of RO filters and using rusty blocks.
Out of these, 21 were sealed in Lahore and seven in Rawalpindi and nine in Multan Zone. Mengal claimed that 232 ice manufacturing plants have installed RO filters after the checking campaign by the Authority. Meanwhile, the PFA teams also checked canteens of different hospitals in the provincial metropolis and sealed Cafeteria Pizza section and milk shake point in General Hospital for using expired items and rotten fruits while canteen of Emergency Ward was also closed down due to poor cleanliness arrangements and employing workers without medical fitness certificates.
