Technical and vocational education is imperative to involve our youth in productive activates and in this connection Prime Minister's Youth Skill Development Program of National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NVTTC) has started yielding positive results.
Speaking at prize distribution ceremony in connection with Zonal Competition organized by NAVTTC here on Friday, Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) acting president Farooq Yusuf said Pakistan is a blessed country with 65 percent youth of productive age but we failed to utilize it by equipping with necessary technical and vocational skills.
He said a large number of students left their education after matriculation and this huge chunk of population could not be accommodated in government department. He mentioned the widening gap between imports and exports and said our exports are declining and the short fall is being bridged by remittances sent by expatriate Pakistani. He said these unskilled Pakistani are actually contributing their role in strengthen Pakistan economically.
However, he stressed the need to equip youth with modern skills so that they could earn more and send their maximum savings to Pakistan for their families. He appreciated Prime Minister's youth skills Development Program and said that during this program free training is imparted in addition to providing them a reasonable stipend. He said that the youth should be incentivized and encouraged to start their own businesses instead of running after the jobs.
Continuing, he said industrialists are not getting skilled workers whereas our youth is deprived of jobs. He said that in this connection after a series of consultation, sector specific trades have been identified in which training will be imparted so that the availability of employment of these skilled youth could be ensured. Later Farooq Yusuf distributed prizes among the position holders of Prime Minister Youth Skill development Program.
