Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will contest the upcoming general elections under the slogan 'give respect to vote.' He was talking to the media in London after a meeting with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and ex-finance minister Ishaq Dar to discuss important party issues as well as formation of the caretaker setup.
The meeting took place amid speculations, as London has been a hub for wheeling and dealing in Pakistani politics. However, no official word was available about the decisions made in meeting. Prime Minister Abbasi, after the meeting, did dispel the impression that Nawaz Sharif may not come back to the country, saying that the former premier would return back to the country.
He also stated that the name of caretaker prime minister will be finalized in consultations with Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah. The prime minister also expressed the confidence that PML-N would emerge victorious in the upcoming general elections, saying the party would contest under the slogan "give respect to vote".
"Everyone believes in sanctity of vote...PML-N will take part in elections and will achieve victory," he added. Prime Minister Abbasi was in London to lead Pakistan delegation in the 25th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM-2018) from April 18-20, 2018. He, however, extended the visit for discussing the party affairs as well as to enquire after Kulsoom Nawaz. Nawaz Sharif left for London on Wednesday along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz to see his ailing wife Kulsoom Nawaz.
