The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has started efforts for forming an alliance with political parties in Sindh to challenge the PPP in forthcoming general elections. In this regard, the PML-N leadership held talks with the leaders of MQM-P, ANP Sindh, and GDA. PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif is visiting Karachi on Sunday (today) to have political meetings with the MQM-P, ANP and other like-minded parties to form an anti-PPP political and electoral alliance, sources said.
The sources claimed that Shahbaz Sharif has started to make use of his "political cards" in a bid to pull his party out of crises and prepare for upcoming elections. "Winning over disgruntled leaders, seat adjustments and anti-PPP electoral alliances and organisational work along with public contact campaign were among strategies being considered by the PML-N head," the sources said.
Earlier, Shahbaz had visited Karachi on April 14 and met key political figures in the Governor House. It was Shahbaz's first visit to Karachi after being elected as president of the ruling party in the wake of the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif as prime minister and party head by the Supreme Court.
Punjab Minister Rana Mashhood confirmed that the PML-N is going to form an election alliance with MQM-P, ANP and GDA. He said the PML-N is talking to Pir Pagara and MQM-P and the outcome is very positive so far. Shahbaz in a meeting with Mayor of Karachi Waseem Akhtar vowed to turn Karachi once again into the city of lights "free of garbage". He said, "The situation of Sindh and Karachi has deteriorated due to corruption. If money had not been looted, the situation of the city and the province would have been different. It is my dream to run a metro bus in Karachi."
