A 67-word Balfour Declaration 1917 changed the entire course of history that forced the world to deal with its ramifications, divesting Palestinians of their political rights on their native land. In a speech at the Pakistan Institute of International Affairs (PIIA), former Pakistan diplomat, Karamatullah Ghauri coined a three-letter terminology 'OIL' to encompass the Arab World's unwritten gauging policy placed on its people, who undergo miseries from their leaders.
The OIL, he chose for his lecture. The first letter stands for Oil itself; the second; Israel and last; Arab leaders for the conflicts and public miseries in the petroleum rich region. The struggle for power amongst the ruling monarchs across the region and western nations' interest of oil is one of the key reasons that held back the people from speaking out, he said.
Israel's creation and existence deprived the Palestinians from their rights to express their views with a political exercise. He said the Britain who triggered the Balfour Declaration took away the land it never belonged to it to those who did not inhabit it from the native Palestinians living there for a millennium.
The Jewish consisted of the total population in 1930 as only 3 percent to 36 percent by 1937, he said, adding that the big power caused to found Israel state in 1948, eventually. The Balfour Declaration's 67 words never mentioned the protection to the political rights of native Palestinians to create a Zionist state, he said, pointing out that the west created Israel in the heat of middle east to safeguard its oil interest in the region.
The falloff of the Zionists state also brought the Arab nations to relinquish their rights to question or debate the policies of their rulers all across the region from Morocco to the down of Yemen and Qatar. He also gave details of events of Arab history since the fall of Ottoman Empire with first discovery of fuel oil in the very region.
The 1973 oil embargo by King Faisal of Saudi Arabia cutting off supplies to the western world in reaction to its support to Israel in the Arab-Israel war brought the Americans and others in a problem, which they never thought of. Ghauri said that the fuel oil price shot up by quadruple to $3.5 a barrel in no time with embargo taking place.
However, Hennery Kissinger, the US Secretary of State, evolved a doctrine to shun such unperceivable reaction from the Arab World in the future, and selected the nations from the region as one-by-one to never allow them get united for the Palestinian cause ever. In which, he said, the west and US succeeded as first Egypt emerged to recognize Israel.
The US and western allies also assured them a complete and stoppable supplies of the fuel oil through maneuvering of policies to deal individually with nations in the region, he said, pointing to a meeting between the US President, Franklin D Roosevelt and King Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia in 1945 on a war ship to let the Saudis rule the country while it will continue supply to the west in return.
He said that the US President for creation of Israel also assured the Saudi King of protecting the Palestinians political and other rights. However, the Franklin D R did live long, which left his pledge unfulfilled and resultantly the Palestinians continued to face the worst segregation and repression on their own land living like slaves. The Egyptian recognition of Israel also cost Palestinians beyond a repairable damage, the former diplomat said.
The US succeeded with Kissinger's policy to keep the Arab World divided to protect the Israel from their unity that could threaten the Zionist sate's existence in the region. Thus, Palestinians continued to loss patronage of Saudi Arabia and Egypt with the passage of time as per the same policy, he said that the Gen. Sessi of Egypt placed the worst 'open air' prison on Palestinians barring them from free movement through Gaza border.
The Kissinger doctrine left the Arab World completely neutralized to quit pursuing the Palestinian policy for their rights. Further, he said, the invasion of Iraq in 2003 that based on a 'lie' gave birth to the infamous ISIS in the region, while sectarian and ethnic violence there. He said the Syrian conflict is not going to end 'anytime soon'.
Showing worries, he said the Saudi-Iran sectarian conflict has to reach at the doorsteps of Pakistanis, whom have to deal with it ultimately. Similarly, he said, the Kurdistan state is not coming into being since Turkey, and other state residing the ethnic Kurds, will let it happen. He said that Kurds are being trained to continue their battle for freedom on the advice of Israel.
He called the Kurdish turmoil worse after the Palestine conflict on the planet. To a question, Karamatullah said that Israel has to make it easy for the Muslim world to get their recognition by reducing its border to pre-1967 war and giving legitimate rights to the Palestinians. He also called the ISIS a 'terrorist' organization killing Muslims mercilessly.
