Chief Justice Lahore High Court Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Friday directed the Inspector General Punjab (IG) to arrest the killer of Zainab in 36 hours. The petitioner, a bar member, Shahin Pirzada has sought direction for the government to legislate for the controle of children's abduction, rape and killings and the protection of minors and most vulnerable.
The CJ remarked, "Zainab's murder is the clear evidence of police failure; it is pretty evident that police could not arrest the culprits involved in the same nature of crimes in the area." The petitioner contended that there is no law in place to controle such heinous incidents as the culprits are roaming free without fear of arrest and justice.
The IG Punjab Arif Nawaz presenting initial report over Zainab's murder case admitted the negligence of police department contending there is just one culprit behind the abduction, rape and killings of minors. He further implored that different police teams have been constituted to arrest the culprit involved.
The IG told the court that total eleven incidents of rape with minor girls occurred in last two years and 227 suspects had been arrested and the DNA samples of 67 suspects were examined.
