The Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) is actively pursuing various power projects based on coal, hydel and RLNG of accumulative capacity of around 15,000 MW which will likely to completed in phases till 2024. Out of the total, projects having 2503 MW capacity would be completed in the current year, followed by 2505 MW in 2019, 1980 MW in 2020, 3330 MW in 2021, 870 MW in 2022 and 2312 MW in 2024, official sources told APP.
They said power projects of 3,440 MW had already been commissioned during 2017 and they were included first unit (660 MW) of 1320 MW imported coal based power project Port Qasim Karachi, 1180 MW RLNG based project Bhikki, GTI and GT 2 (800 MW) RLNG plant Balloki and GT1 and GT2 (800 MW) RLNG plant Haveli Bahadur Shah. Similarly, the projects which schedule to be completed in 2018 were included 423 MW from Balloki power plant, 430 MW from Haveli Bahadur Shah Power Plant, First unit 660 MW Coal based power plant Hub (Balochistan), first unit 330 MW Thar Coal Power Plant and second unit 660 MW Port Qasim Coal Power Plant.
Meanwhile, three hydro-power projects including 870MW Suki Kinari, 720MW Karot and 102MW Gulpur were under construction following their financial close, they said. The projects which likely to supply electricity to the national grid system in 2019 were included second unit (660 MW) of coal based power plant at Hub (Balochistan), second unit( 330 MW) Thar Coal Power plant, 163 MW coal power plant Arifwala, 102 MW Gulpur Hydropower Plant and 1250 MW RLNG based power Project Trimmu Barrage (Jhang). PPIB had successfully inducted 33 independent private power projects of about 10515 MW so far by attracting an investment of $9.4 billion, they added.
