As in other parts of the country, Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi is being celebrated in Karachi with religious zest and fervour. The day will begin with special prayers at mosques. Various Durood-o-Salam and Naat, gatherings will also take place in city neighborhoods. Over 350 processions will be held in Karachi. The Sindh government has taken strict security measures to maintain law and order. Hundreds of personnel will guard the city during the religious event.
The city's central procession will be taken out from New Memon Masjid in the Bolton Market area, from where it will reach Nishtar Park. Religious scholars will address the gatherings. Workers of the Jafaria Disaster Cell will light thousands of candles and oil lampsalong the routes.
Entry of vehicles and pedestrians on M.A. Jinnah Road and the lanes connecting the route of the procession will be completely sealed by containers. A bomb disposal squad will sweep the route of the main rally. Encroachments have already been removed from the entire route. In his message for the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair has said that Pakistan and the whole world can be made a cradle of peace by following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The governor said there is need to promote religious and sectarian harmony in the country, as Islam teaches love, harmony and brotherhood. Muhammad Zubair said when there will be peace in our society, the nations of the world will themselves understand the message of Islam. Meanwhile, the chairman of the Pakistan People's Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has felicitated the nation on the auspicious occasion.
"We celebrate and rejoice today. We must also reflect on where as a nation we are headed towards in the name of religion," he said. This is a question to which the people, particularly the youths of Pakistan, are desperately seeking an answer, he said. Bilawal said, "The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) preached and practiced tolerance and understanding, not violence."
