ISLAMABAD: Analyst Dr. Zubair Iqbal on Friday said that closeness of Pakistan and Russia is good not only for both countries but also for the whole region.
Talking to a private news channel, he said that these relations have been started to develop much earlier, when Pakistan became observer of SCO and later on, Russia supported Islamabad's permanent membership of the organization.
He said both the countries have common borders and regional interests. Besides, Russia has energy resources and technology, which can be used by Pakistan.
He said both countries want to increase bilateral trade, for which, they have to improve investment climate for each other.
He hoped that Russian investors may invest in coal, energy and Steel Mills development projects in Pakistan.
He said Pak-Russia relationship should be seen in the context of economic and strategic development.
He said that Russia has always role in Afghan issue as it is a neighbouring country and has long term relations with Afghanistan.
Therefore, Russia will play its indirect role in Afghan issue and its support is necessary for durable peace in the region, he said.
