The Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) Punjab's leadership has urged the Punjab government not to buy wheat having more moisture than prescribed limits during the procurement drive. "Probability of suffering from aflatoxin increases with consumption of the wheat having more moisture than the prescribed level makes it inappropriate for human consumption," said PFMA Punjab Chairman Riaz Ullah Khan, Group Leader Asim Raza, Mian Riaz, Liaquat Ali Khan and Chaudhry Iftikhar Mattoo in a joint statement issued here on Monday.
The PFMA leaders said the provincial food department had no proper storage capacity. They maintained that under such storage circumstances, wheat with more moisture could not maintain its standard for longer period as expected and claimed that it is not possible to produce flour in line with hygiene standards from wheat containing fungus.
