Punjab government has set the target to generate two million skilled labour force by the year 2018 that would bring a revolution as industry would have highly skilled human resources. Punjab Minister for Industries, Commerce & Investment Sheikh Alauddin stated this while speaking at the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) and "Skills for All" here at the LCCI on Monday.
He denounced the FBR raids on business premises and said that he would take up this issue with the higher authorities. The business community is a backbone of the economy and it should be given due honour and respect, he said. Pakistan has great scope of human resources development as 65 percent population is youth and are between the age of 15 to 35 years, he added.
Sheikh Alauddin said that businessmen could contact him if FBR officials are misusing their discretionary powers or conducting undue raids at the business premises. The government is committed to impart all possible facilities to business community as it is playing a major role in bringing the economic stability. No country could achieve economic targets without due role of the business community therefore government is making all-out efforts to resolve their issues, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President Abdul Basit said that raids at business premises and markets and harassment measures by the FBR staff are not only adding to the miseries of the business community but are also promoting trust deficit between the government and the business community. The Lahore Chamber is taking practical steps in this regard and organising training programs and workshops in collaboration with the government and private departments for its members, he added.
