SME Bank welcomes LCCI's proposals

Published February 25, 2017 Updated February 25, 2017 12:00am

SME Bank is ready to provide all types of facilitation to the small and medium enterprises and it will also welcome the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry's proposals in this regard. President SME Bank Ihsan-ul-Haq Khan stated this while talking to LCCI Acting President Amjad Ali Jawa on Friday. He said that feedback from the Lahore Chamber could further improve the performance of SME bank which is supporting and developing the SME sector by providing necessary financial and technical assistance on a sustainable basis.
The LCCI Acting President said that SME Bank was set up for the development of small and medium enterprises but failed to yield desired results. The bank's financial policy should be clear whereas the bank needs to make borrowing process easier for the enterprises, he added. The bank should enable the SMEs to contribute to the national economy value addition and exports besides creating employment opportunities, he said.
Jawa informed the SME Bank's chief that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce was the first chamber that had opposed the privatisation of SME Bank in the larger interest of the SME sector of Pakistan. The chamber had proposed to the government that instead of selling off the SME Bank it should shift its focus to the SME sector which is considered to be the engine of economic growth in both developed and developing countries, he said.
Jawa urged the SME Bank to provide loans to the SMEs on easy conditions. He also asked for nomination of the bank's representatives to facilitate the enterprises through the LCCI help desk that already had representation of Federal Board of Revenue and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, for this purpose.
