Islamabad police on Friday decided to extend search operation to the rural areas of the federal capital and cancelled holidays of police personnel to ensure foolproof security in the city. A senior official said the decision to this effect was taken at a meeting presided over by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sajid Kiani.
The meetings decided to further broaden the scope of ongoing search operation, in which hundreds of suspected persons have been arrested do far, besides extending scope of operation to the rural belt of the city, he added. He said the SSP has ordered police to launch a crackdown on facilitators of criminals and terrorists. The meeting also decided to launch a crackdown on proclaimed offenders, he added.
He said the purpose of the SSP's order to cancel the holidays of the police is to keep security on high alert and ensure effective security measures. The SSP also issued directives to ensure effective security arrangements at sensitive installations, shrines and educational institutions. He said the SSP issued directives to conduct security audit of shrines, including Bari Imam, Sain Boota and Golra Sharif, and maintain foolproof security there. The official said that it was also decided to install security cameras at maximum locations and keep their record safe.
The SSP ordered that checking of hotels, guesthouses and inns should be ensured and complete bio-data be obtained of those persons staying there, he said, adding that three halting points have been created at Kashmir Highway to ensure effective checking and asked for high vigilance at police pickets, especially exit and entry points.
The meeting was attended by SP (Investigation) Muhammad Ilyas, SP Sadar Zeeshan Haider, SP Industrial Area Muhammad Hasan Iqbal and other senior officials of the police department.
