Low gas pressure and unscheduled electricity load shedding for long hours have irked the lives of residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad miserable. Electricity outages for up to eighteen hours have adversely affected the commercial activities in the twin cities.
The residents of Dhok Farman Ali, Dhok Khabba, Dhok Ilahi Bux, Nadeem Colony, Arya Muhalla, Chamnzar Colony, Glass Factory, Sadiqabad, Muslim Town, Chah Sultan, Amarpura, Waris Khan, Dhok Hasssu, Pir Wadhai, Fauji Colony, Dhok Mangtal, Afhan Colony, Gulistan Colony, Tench Bhata, Dhok Chaudhrian, Saham, Adiala Road, Misrial Road and surrounding areas have complained about the gas shortage.
Talking to media, local residents of Rawalpindi Farrukh, Mohsin, Shakeel, Anwar and others said that their lives were distressed due to low gas pressure coupled with electricity load shedding.
The helpless residents are compelled to cook food and complete other chores at late hours from 12 am to 4 am as the gas pressure increases during this time. They said the people have to go on work with empty stomachs since the gas pressure is nil in the morning. The residents asserted that they are compelled to use firewood, coal and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders to fulfil their needs in the face of untoward gas and electricity load shedding.
They urged the officials concerned to take measures to overcome the power outages. Meanwhile, residents of Bhara Kahu under the headship of General Councils Shabir Mughal and Zain Abbasi lodged a protest against power shortage in front of the Union Council's office in Islamabad. Chairman Union Council Raja Wahid Kiani said that the gas pressure was too low in the areas of Muhalla Qaim Din, Muhalla Ghousia, Muslim Town, Muhalla Nain such, muhalla Abdullah town, Ghouri Town and surrounding areas. They threatened to block the Murree Road and stage a bigger protest if the gas shortage was not curbed within 24 hours.
