The Kissan Board Pakistan (KBP) has directed its members to visit the homes and offices of members of parliament of their respective constituencies urging them to stop government atrocities on farmers. The directives were issued by KBP Central Punjab President Chaudhry Shaukat Ali at a meeting held here on Monday with Rai Muhammad Afzal, KBP Kasur District President, in the chair.
KBP Central Secretary Information Haji Muhammad Ramzan claimed that Afzal Kharl informed the meeting that Pattoki Sugar Mills, Abdullah Sugar Mills, Brother Sugar Mills and Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills were violating the cane act by paying only Rs 160 per maund to the sugarcane farmers after the so-called deductions. He also accused those sugar mills as defaulters of millions of rupees.
Speaking on this occasion, KBP Central Punjab President Chaudhry Shaukat said the mills were paying Rs 160 per maund to sugarcane growers instead of Rs 180 per maund thus illegally earning millions of rupees. He announced that the Board would arrange Kissan Convention throughout the province to motivate the growers to raise their voice and snatch their right from the sugar millers, rulers and administration. He said a convention in Kasur would be arranged in the middle of next month.
