Mian Bakhtawar Tanvir Sheikh, Senior Vice President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) has said that SME sector is the backbone of Pakistan's economy in terms of its contribution towards GDP, employment generation and export development. Financial access is a key driver in developing the SME sector which in turn leads to economic growth of the country.
Delivering his speech at a seminar on 'Small Business Management' jointly organised by Smeda & MCCI, Bakhtawar said SMEs in Pakistan faced numerous problems including access to finance which affected the overall productivity of SMEs thus making them uncompetitive across the global value chain.
He further said that in order to create awareness amongst the SMEs about the financial solutions available for them and to encourage them to become part of the formal economy, banks had to design their financial products catering to the requirement and uniqueness of each sector in Pakistan. Naseer Akhtar from Smeda said that small business formed the backbone of all economies, more in a developing country like Pakistan.
With the help of multimedia he threw light of different topics like basics of Business Management, Marketing and Customer Retention, Production and Operations Management, Basics of Accounts and Finance, Basic IT Skills, E-Commerce& Small Business and Social Media Marketing. Aurangzeb Alamgir, Khawaja Manzoor Qadar and Secretary General of MCCI Khurran Javed also joined them.
