SC directs PFA to submit quality report on packed milk, drinking water

Supreme Court of Pakistan Thursday directed Punjab Food Authority (PFA) to submit comprehensive report about quality of packed/loose milk and drinking water in a petition filed against contaminated and sub-standard milk and water by December 27. Earlier, Pakistan Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR) official submitted a sealed report about examination of samples of milk and water in a petition filed against.
He said samples of nine out of eleven packed milk companies had been found to be substandard. While, samples of six mineral water manufacturing companies had been declared substandard, he added. Director General PFA Noorul Ameen Mengal told the court that actions were being taken against manufacturers of unhygienic milk and water.
The court observed it would not allow anyone to play with the lives of the citizens.
The petitioner barrister Zafarullah Khan stated that not only loose milk but the packed milk being consumed by citizens was also adulterated with chemicals, not fit for human consumption. He submitted that citizens suffered serious diseases like cancer and hepatitis-c by using contaminated and sub-standard milk and water. He, therefore, prayed to the court to ban use of contaminated, adulterated milk, water and injections being injected to buffaloes for milking.
