"Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) is offering vocational training in 15 demands driven short courses to prisoners." Chairperson TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said this while meeting with Inspector General Prisons Mian Farooq Nazeer.
He also said funds will be allocated to establish new Government Technical Training Centres in jails to provide more vocational training to the prisoners. At present 1100 prisoners have been provided vocational training in first phase, he added.
Now, more than 1500 prisoners are being trained demand driven vocational training in 15 jails in second phase, he mentioned. Irfan also said that the prisoners are being trained in several demand driven vocational training including home appliances repair, electrician, wood work, carpenter, beautician, domestic tailoring, welder, plumber, motor cycle mechanic, tractor mechanic, machine embroidery, computer applications, motor winding, fashion designing, hand embroidery, industrial stitching.
This training is being conducted as per vision of Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif to impart technical education and vocational training in all segments of society. Chairperson TEVTA further said that to start these vocational training courses for prisoners in shortest possible time is to make them skilled persons.
He further stated that after completion of this training, the individuals will be able to earn their livelihood for them and their families, he concluded. Chief Operating Officer TEVTA Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, TEVTA Officers Aamer Aziz, Waheed Asghar, Sarfraz Anwar and other officers were also present on this occasion.
