Fresh banners in support of Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif surfaced on Saturday, suggesting him to take part in upcoming general elections and become prime minister of the country. A private television channel reported that the banners were put up in different areas of Rawalpindi, a garrison city where Pakistan Army's General Headquarters (GHQ) is located.
In the banners, the Parliament has been urged to deduct by one year the mandatory waiting period of two years for a government employee before he or she can take part in politics. The army chief is retiring on November 29 this year. "For the sake of the country's integrity, the government and opposition lawmakers should end their politics of anarchy, and decrease by one year the constitutional tenure of two years that is mandatory for a government employee to take part in election, so that a prominent personality of our country-General Raheel Sharif-can take part in 2018 general elections and become the prime minister of Pakistan.
