An Anti-Terrorism Court-III (ATC-III) on Thursday granted bail to Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar in four cases pertaining to the May 12, 2007 mayhem and the incendiary speeches. According to prosecution, ATC Karachi also ordered the release of MQM leader.
The mayor, however, will remain in jail since he faces around a dozen more cases and has to first obtain bail in all the cases before getting out of jail. He has already been granted bail in three cases.
Akhtar was arrested on July 19 on charges of sheltering and providing medical treatment to alleged terrorism and militants. Later he was also booked in several other cases dating back to 2007 when he was Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Home.
