The ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) on Thursday flayed chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, it was the opposition which delayed probe into Panama under one pretext or another. Addressing a press conference PML-N leaders including State Minister for Information Technology Anusha Rahman, Member National Assembly (MNA) Daniyal Aziz and special assistant to the Prime Minister, Barrister Zafarullah Khan categorically stated that PM's name was not in Panama papers.
She said that the prime minister wanted an early decision on Panama papers to bring truth before the nation. She also rejected the reports that the counsel for the family of the prime minister objected to maintainability of the petitions on panama leaks.
Expressing dismay over Imran Khan's statements, Anusha said that it was quite unfortunate that PTI chief was giving a wrong impression after attending court hearings. She added that only allegations were hurled and no evidence was provided in the court.
Daniyal Aziz said that the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) also deleted the PM's name and maintained that the five-page Panama Papers do not contain his name.
He said that the PM did not avoid the investigation and since the beginning has been in favour of accountability.
The PML-N leader said that the delay wasn't from the government's side for investigation and the PTI chief is wrong in blaming the party for this.
"After all this time since the news broke, Imran Khan remembered to go to Supreme Court on Aug 29," Aziz added. He said that the matter could have also been raised on the parliament's floor.
Aziz called Imran Khan "master of runaways" saying that the PTI chief has been running away from his stance as well.
He said that PM's lawyer within 24 hours of the apex court directions during Thursday hearing of Panama leaks related issue has submitted Prime Minister's reply to the court.
He said that the lawyer stated that Nawaz Sharif did not own offshore companies and flats. Aziz said that the Panama papers do not contain the name of Prime Minister and PTI chief must stop levelling baseless allegations against others.
He added that the prime minister's name was not mentioned in the Panama Papers and he submits his taxes regularly.
Zafarullah said that government is ready for investigation under the Terms of References (ToRs) finalised by the apex court. He said Imran Khan should also present himself for accountability under the same ToRs.
He said that the replies of Capitan Muhammad Safdar (retd) and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar have been submitted in the Supreme Court.
