Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) has vowed to work as team with the government to achieve the objectives of the recently announced auto policy. According to details, the industry fully supports the measures taken under the new auto policy and look forward to work with EDB for its implementation to optimise the benefits of the policy in the larger interest of consumers and the country.
PAMA spokesperson pointed out that immobilise was an optional device to be installed in the vehicle just to prevent thefts while there was no such device in the world that may bring a foolproof security. Therefore, it is a matter of choice which devise is considered useful. He said that declared this requirement mandatory would negate the option of choice and also impose a cost that shall be borne by the buyers. Above all, duplicate keys of factory installed immobilises may end up into more cost and inconvenience to customers, he added.
He further informed that installation of immobilises should be linked with the introduction of new models or a minimum time frame be given for preparation as installation of a new devise require technical process which require advance planning with backward and forward linkages to the technology & supply chain therefore changes cannot be introduced forthwith that installation could take place as of July 1st in compliance to the notification of June 29, 2016.
PAMA spokesperson said that OEMs' operations currently had several thousand cars at various stages of production and supply chain and it was impossible for them to immediately comply with this condition in relation to these vehicles since they had already been partially assembled while OEMs also have a stock of kits which they had already imported and have also already ordered and opened letters of credit for other kits, which are due to arrive soon without the provision of immobilises.
