ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on Monday approved 20th Amendment Bill 2012 in order to give the legal coverage to the by-elections in the wake of 18th Amendment.
The committee met under the chairpersonship of Begum Nasim Akhter Chaudhry, MNA. The committee also considered the Legal Practitioner and Bar Council (Amendment) Bill, 2008 and recommended to withdraw it on the advice of Attorney General of Pakistan and Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs for the purpose to restore the original legal Practitioner and Bar councils Act, 1973.
The Committee also considered the various amendments proposed by the Election Commission of Pakistan in respect of the Electoral Rolls Act, 1974, the Senate (Election) Act, 1975, the representation of People Act, 1975 and the political parties order 2002, in order to hold free and Fair Elections in the country.
MNAs Syed Naveed Qamar, Abdul Ghafoor chaudhry, Muhammad Ijaz Virk Advocate, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, Riaz Fatyana, S.A Iqbal Qadri and Sardar Muhammad Yuqub Khan Nasar attended the meeting.
