ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday admitted a petition for regular hearing against Sharmila Farooqui's eligibility as adviser to Sindh Chief Minister as well as member of Provincial Cabinet.
A three-Judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry ordered removal of objections placed by Registrar office on the application and directed it for regular hearing.
The petitioner Habibul Wahab Khairi, chairman Al-Jehad Trust, appeared in person and said that Sharmila Farooqi had taken relief under annulled National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
The Chief Justice observed that if she had taken relief under plea bargain, then her case was a continuation of NRO issue.
He remarked that her eligibility as an Adviser in the Provincial Cabinet should be reviewed as those who got relief under NRO, were no longer entitled for such benefits now.
Khairi had made the Federation, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of Sindh, NAB Chairman, National Savings Director General, Usman Farooqui, Aneesa Farooqui, Sharmila Farooqui and State Bank as respondents.
