Announcing a donation of Rs 1 million for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams in Pakistan, British boxer of Pakistani origin Amir Khan has urged other celebs to give funds too.

Khan made the announcement in a video message, in which the 31-year-old said that he is making this donation because Pakistan is facing severe water shortage and people are dying due to drinking contaminated water. He also promised to donate millions more in the fund once he visits Pakistan after his forthcoming fight in the United States.

“I am here in America training for my next fight. I have seen reports on Facebook, TV and news that people are dying because they are not getting clean and drinking water. Pakistan is on a shortage of water. I am showing my support. I want all the celebrities and high-profile people of Pakistan and local people of Pakistan to show their support. How we can support that is by donating, so I today donate a million rupees,” Khan said.

The renowned boxer also applauded the Pakistan Army and commended the government for contributing to the fund. The officers and soldiers of Pakistan Army, Navy and Air Force have also contributed their share, along with government officials.

Meanwhile, the ‘Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dam Fund’ has been set up by the government after getting instructions from the Supreme Court. While hearing a case against water shortage, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar ordered to set up this fund to resolve the prevailing water crisis in Pakistan, for which he himself has donated Rs 1 million. Both international and domestic donors can donate for the dams and the general public has also been requested to generously contribute.

The former captain of the Pakistan cricket team Shahid Afridi has also announced to donate Rs 1.5 million to the fund while actor Hamza Ali Abbasi too made a contribution for the fund.
