PM appearance in court reveals judiciary respect: Rahimdad

Published Updated

imtyuiopPESHAWAR: Khyber Pakthunkhwa Senior Minister Rahimdad Khan said on Thursday that appearance of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani before the Supreme Court reflected respect of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for the judiciary.

"Today is an historic day as the Chief Executive of the country appeared before the apex court," he told APP.    He said the political wisdom of the government showed their will to resolve important issues and ensure the progress and prosperity of the country.

The minister said those involved in negative politics failed in materializing their vested interest. The PPP government, he said, from day one demonstrated extreme patience and tolerance in settling the ticklish issues through political acumen.

The PPP leader accused PML-N workers of desecrating the diginity of Supreme Court when their party was in power. But "the appearance of PPP's Prime Minister in the court was a clear message to the nation that how much repect the party has for judiciary".

Prime Minister Gilani in his first speech in the National Assembly had ordered release of the judges of apex court put under house arrest by General Pervez Musharraf, he recalled.

President Asif Ali Zardari had returned his powers to the Parliament, which is also unprecedented in the history of country to ensure smooth functioning of the democractic set-up, he said. The PPP leader advised the opponents to shun negative politicking and work for strengthening democratic institutions.
