BUCHAREST: Romania ran a consolidated budget deficit of 0.9 percent of gross domestic product in the first five months, against a shortfall of 0.65 percent at the end of April, finance ministry data showed on Wednesday.
The government targets a full-year deficit of just under 3 percent of GDP. In nominal terms, the gap was 8.14 billion lei ($2.02 billion).
Revenues were at 11.9 percent of GDP, or 110.9 billion lei. Spending stood at 119 billion lei. The five-month gap compares with a deficit of 0.3 percent in the same period of last year.
