ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a report produced before it regarding steps aimed at improving law and order situation in Balochsitan province.
A three-Judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Triq Parvez and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain on a constitutional petition moved by Shakeel Hadi, President Balochistan High Court Bar Association, under Article 9 of the Constitution for securing lives and properties in the province, expressed its dismay over the security measures.
The Chief Justice, during proceedings, expressed his displeasure with the security steps and told Advocate General Balochistan Amanullah Kinrani, that the scenario in the province was indicative of total failure of law and order.
Disagreeing with Kinrani's contentions, the bench observed that Karachi was a thriving city of millions population as compared to Quetta.
Justice Khilji Arif Hussain observed that in Quetta, an individual could not feel protected. "Our bodies cannot survive without soul, similarly, we cannot survive without soul, that is Quetta," he observed.
The Chief Justice told provincial chief law officer that only constitution would have to fix responsibility as it had done in Karachi over unrest situation.
The bench directed the advocate general to submit till January 20, all reports of security agencies during last three months.
