zardar-kayaniKARACHI: Amid speculation to resolve friction between the powerful military and the civilian government, Chief or Army Staff General Parvez Ashfaq Kayani met President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad on Saturday.

According to reports on television, the two discussed the “memogate” scandal and current national security issues and the arrival of US Special Representative for Af-Pak Ambassador Marc Grossman in the region.

The meeting lasted about an hour, sources said.

The meeting took place ahead of the Defence Committee meeting presided over by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in which three services chiefs will also be present.
