ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan on Wednesday informed the Senate that 95 percent amount has been returned to Employees Old-Age Benefit Institution (EOBI) which was earlier transferred to other departments.
The minister stated this while responding to a Calling Attention Notice moved by Senator Mian Raza Rabbani. It was about transfer of funds of the EOBI to the Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, Climate Change and other Ministries and departments of the federal government.
He informed the Senate that an amount was transferred to the departments in 8 tranches during 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
He said Rs 20.19 million was still pending with the departments and this amount will be taken back soon. However, he said if the amount is not returned by the department, the government will provide Rs 20 million to EOBI.
He also informed the House that an amount of Rs 43 billion of EOBI was used to purchase land and this case was still pending in the courts.
The minister said that after the passage of 18th amendment, the EOBI had been devolved to provinces but the provinces are not ready to take the responsibility till recovery of the entire amount.
