PPP MPAs lash out at Nawaz on setting up of military courts

KARACHI: The ruling PPP legislators on Tuesday lashed out at Chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, on his fresh statements about setting up of military courts in Karachi after coming into to power, at a Sindh Assembly session.

The lawmakers also criticised the chief of the country's largest opposition political party for his views, he expressed a day before during Karachi visit about a division of Sindh province on linguistic basis, saying "we condemn the dirty mentality of Nawaz Sharif".

However, a resolution which Dr Sikandar Mangro tabled to condemn the former two-time Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, for his remarks could not make a way to pass for the session had run out of its proceeding time.

Syed Sardar Ahmad said the resolution was "perhaps" important but could not be introduced to open a debate at for time limitation as the house proceedings were near to close and suggested the move could be brought in the coming session to allow every legislator to express sentiments. Which Dr Sikandar accepted and dropped his resolution for the time being.

Sindh Information Minister, Shazia Mari, called it a "biased" thinking of Nawaz Sharif while Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro hit hard at PML-N chief with too strong words as dubbing his remarks "dirty mentality". A lady PPP legislator, Humera Alwani, also showed discontentment upon the statement.

Responding upon a resolution which the female lawmaker of MQM, Heer Soho, who presented on gas cuts in Sindh province, Sindh Education Minister, Pir Mazharul Haq, said the government is aware of the utility load shedding and efforts are being made to address the issue on a priority basis.

He said it is a Constitutional right of any gas producing province to utilise the utility first to satisfy its local demand and then supply the surplus amount to other provinces. He assured the issue would be looked into seriously.

He said the ruling PPP had no reservation on the resolution, which meant to safeguard the Sindh province's Constitutional right. Ayaz Soomro said President Asif Ali Zardari had called a "high-level" meeting to solve the gas outages problems in the province. Shazia Mari said the PPP would support the resolution to attain the Sindh province's Constitutional rights.

Heer Soho contended in the resolution that since the Sindh province is generating gas should have a right to first use and the supply the utility to other province if there is any of its surplus amount. However, on the assurance from all sides, she dropped her move with a caution to bring it forth next time if the demand is not met.

Sindh Sports Minister, Muhammad Ali Shah, explained his department's activities and funds spending for development of sports in the province.
