KARACHI: A 48-hour long suspension of CNG due to closure of gas stations is seen as a nightmare by motorists, transporters and commuters, and it would badly harm the economic activities in the national hub of economy, Karachi.
Citizens, as well as, public transporters have spent millions of rupees to get their vehicles to CNG and they are facing immense problems due to prolonged closures of CNG stations which have now become a regular feature.
The public transporters have announced a wheel jam strike on Saturday against the closure of gas stations. Karachi Transport Ittehad summoned an urgent meeting presided over by their head Irshad Hussain Shah Bukhari.
The meeting was told that after the failure of several meetings with the government functionaries, the public transporters have decided to go on strike on Saturday.
They appealed to the Prime Minister Pakistan and Petroleum Minister that Sindh particularly Karachi be exempted from suspension of gas while the rates of petrol, diesel and CNG must not be increased; otherwise they would be forced to protest and its responsibility would solely be on the shoulders of Petroleum Minister.
Meanwhile, Anjuman-e-Ettehad Bus Malikan Karachi, in a statement, has supported the strike call, adding that the government should review its anti-people policies while closure is raising the level of unemployment among the transporters.
It was further the expected raise in CNG must also be reverted otherwise the transporters would be forced to protest.
