QUETTA: At least nine people have been killed and 20 others injured in a bomb blast occurred near house of the son of former state minister on Arbab Karam Khan road in the provincial capital on Friday night.
Police told APP that unknown armed men had planted explosive material near the house of Shafiq Mengal, the son of ex-state minister Mir Nasir Mengal which exploded, causing death of at least nine people and injuring of 20 others.
CCPO Quetta Ahsan Mehboob said that some unknown men had planted explosives in a vehicle and later parked it besides house of Shafiq Mengal which was detonated. He said that about eight persons had been killed and 20 others wounded.
He said that family of Mengal was safe. The sound of the powerful blast was listened across the Quetta city at 7pm. The personnel of law enforcement agencies including Frontier Corps, police and rescue teams rushed to the site soon after the incident and cordoned off the entire area.
The injured persons were rushed to Sandeman civil hospital and Bolan Medical College hospital while some of them were shifted to private hospitals on Zarghoon road.
Apparently, unidentified armed men parked an explosive laden vehicle near house of Shafiq Mengal which exploded, SP Sariab police Farid while referring to initial investigation told media adding that the fire engulfed nearby three houses.
Some unknown gunmen also opened aerial firing soon after the blast which injured some people including a cameraman of a private TV channel who reached there to cover the incident.
DIG Quetta Nazir Ahmed Kurd told newsmen that Shafiq Mengal remained safe in the explosion. Fire brigade vehicles have reached the area and wwere busy to extinguish fire.
