Apple has filed a patent for a smart pencil that can write even in air, according to reports.

The patent, first spotted by Techtastic, is named ‘Content creation using Electronic Input Device on Non-Electronic devices’. The patent is of a type of electric pencil or a stylus that can write in three dimensions. The information the stylus produces can then be sent to various devices wirelessly.

According to Tech Juice, the pencil can be used on any flat surfaces and the user can also draw 3D objects that can be transferred to electronic devices. Apple already has a stylus that is calls the Apple Pencil, but it can only write and draw on iPad Pro. The device can also connect with iPad, iPhone, Apple watch and iPod.

Apple might introduce a stylus for iPhone

Daily Mail reports, a ‘motion and orientation sensor’ like a camera would track the stylus’ movements. The pen would also have a force sensor on its tip, which will detect if it’s lifting off or touching on a device. The patent states that the device can also be tracked through an electromagnetic or a sound-based receiver.

The patent was filed back in July 2016, but was made public earlier this year in January. However, it’s no use to be excited and get your hopes high as it is still not clear if this stylus would ever come to reality.
