'Liver cancer is the 5th most common cancer worldwide'

On the last day of 28th Annual International Congress of Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology and GI Endoscopy, Dr Subash Gupta a well-known Liver Transplant Surgeon in India gave a lecture on surgical management of Liver Cancer. Dr Gupta said that currently liver cancer is the 5th most common cancer worldwide and 3rd major cause of cancer death. He discussed various surgical options available to treat it including liver transplantation.
Dr Manav Wadhawan from India spoke on management of complications after liver transplantation. Dr Tanweer-ul-Haq from AKUH gave a lecture on Radiological management of liver cancer.
A session was also held on obesity. In which Dr Amir Khan Medical Director of Health Care NHS Trust United Kingdom talked about obesity. He said that untreated, an obese person has only a 1 in 7 chance of reaching normal life expectancy. He also discussed the complications of obesity and talked about surgical options available to treat it.
Dr Jose Sollano from Philippine talked about Fatty Liver disease in Asia. Dr Huma Quraishy gave an impressive lecture on treatment of Hepatitis C.
A surgical session was organised jointly by PSG/SOLES, in which there was a panel of experts who discussed on surgical training in Pakistan, the problems they facing on provincial level and how to implement changes. They said that Medical Universities, College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan and both the trainer and trainee should play their role to make a structure based training programme.-PR
