A high level delegation from the United Kingdom headed by Minister of the State on Development, Andrew Mitchell called on PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif here on Friday.
Other members of the delegation included Sir Michael Barber, Department for International Development's Special Representative on Education for Pakistan, Adam Thomson, British High Commissioner, George Turkington, Head of DFID Pakistan, Richard Parr, Special Adviser to the Secretary of State, Vel Gnanendran, Private Secretary to the Secretary of State, Mark Bowman, Director General DFID and Tom Owen Edmunds, DFID representative.
Both sides discussed the issues of bilateral interests and mutual co-operation especially in the field of education and the development related to this sector. The Chief Minister briefed the delegation about the reforms which the PML-N government has introduced to provide quality education, increase the enrolment of students in the schools, provide standard and high quality education to the poor in Danish schools, initiatives to bring transparency in the process of teachers' induction with special reference to the procedures adopted for the induction of 36000 educators across the province, improve the infrastructure of educational institution and teachers training programme.
He also briefed the delegation about the measures taken by the government of Punjab to create a harmony between the public and private educational institution and the co-operation between the non-government and the government sector in the field of education. Nawaz Sharif appreciated the delegation for its co-operation and support to improve the education system in the Punjab.
