Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre has organised a continuing medical education lecture on the topic of "Approach to patient with non-resolving pneumonia" for general medical practitioners. Dr Irtaza Khan, who was the presenter on this occasion, is a Diplomat American Board of Internal Medicine and Pulmonology.
Currently he is working as an Interventional Pulmonologist/Intensivist in SKMCH & RC and is actively involved in postgraduate training of Internal Medicine residents and research. It was revealed that a patch or an infiltrate in the lungs on chest X-ray is something that almost every clinician faces in practice. Though infection is the most common cause for such presentation but, not uncommonly, other non-infectious conditions also present in a similar fashion. Some diseases like malignancy may lead to poor outcome if missed earlier in the illness. Thus it is important to know the differential diagnosis and clinical approach to a patient with non-resolving pneumonia.
SKMCH & RC is the only hospital in this region to be fully accredited by American Academy of Continuing Medical Education to organise CME activities for health care professionals. Family practitioners, internists, postgraduate trainees in medicine and medical students doing clinical rotation attended this interactive session.
