Security tightened in capital

Security measures have been scaled up in the federal capital following reports pertaining to presence of alleged terrorists in the city, a police spokesperson revealed to Business Recorder here on Friday. Police official revealed that security has been put on high alert in the wake of the reports about the presence of terrorists in the city and security at all the pickets has been enhanced, besides increasing police patrols to avert any untoward incident.
The Police official said that a search operation has been launched in the capital, which could be extended to gust-houses, bus stands and adjacent areas of the capital. Residents of the Capital and people of the rest of the country have been advised to carry their original identity cards to avoid any inconvenience. Patrolling of police has been increased in the Capital and Islamabad police has been instructed to ensure effective checking at all police checkpoints particularly at entry and exit points of the city.
Meanwhile, preparations for Eid Milad-un-Nabi, which is being observed on Sunday, are in full swing in the capital for strict security measures have already been taken. Police official said that security has been put on high alert in the sensitive areas of the capital to avert any potential terror activities on the day of festivity. Around 3,200 security personnel, including officials from the Special Branch and commandoes, have been tasked with averting any untoward incident. There are more than 600 mosques in the capital where security arrangements will be supervised by five SPs.
"Plainclothes policemen will be deployed around all processions. All SPs, SDPOs and SHOs have been directed to ensure thorough checking of all vehicles moving along the routes of these processions to avoid any mishap," the official said. "Vehicles have been provided to police commandos for the patrolling of sensitive areas during Rabi-ul-Awwal festivities. The focus is on all places, including sectors G-6, G-9, I-9 and I-10, Tarlai, Shah Allah Dita and Bari Imam (Nurpur Shahan) areas." In order to beef up security, the official added, measures such as banning pillion riding along the routes of processions are also under consideration.
