The Punjab government has constituted a survey committee for available land along with canals and their branches besides 22 livestock farms across the province for 'tree plantation' campaign. Punjab Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Forestry Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh said while chairing a meeting of the irrigation department on Friday.
Provincial secretaries of irrigation, livestock, forests and additional secretary agriculture department were also present. The minister said a solid and comprehensive policy had been prepared for tree plantation on the vast areas of farms of irrigation, forestry, wildlife and livestock departments in the province.
Aulakh said that trees are national assets. It not only provides wood for furniture and material for construction but also provides food for animals and fuel for domestic use. He said tree also plays a very important role in combating the environment pollution.
