US Consul General William Martin on Wednesday said the signing of a project implementation letter is a clear indication of growing partnership between the government of United States and the Sindh Police.
Handing over a wide range of equipment including 1,000 bullet-proof vests and 1,000 helmets worth US $0.7 million to Sindh police at CPO office, he hoped that the Sindh police would meet extraordinary challenges in Karachi and across Sindh through better equipment and modern training.
In addition to this equipment, the US government will be providing additional support designed to enhance the infrastructure, capabilities and training of police officers in Sindh, he added. Moreover, he said peace and security in Karachi would open many economic and commercial opportunities and attract much needed foreign investment.
Earlier, Mustaq Shah, Inspector General of Police (IGP), lauded the efforts of US Consul General to protect police and make them more effective in meeting stiff challenges. He said this equipment would definitely play a vital role in enhancing the performance of Sindh police.
Later, IGP Sindh and Brain Nichols, Principle Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Narcotics and International Law Enforcement in Washington, DC signed the project implementation letter.
