Agrarian economy growth: Khuhro for fair pricing mechanism

Speaker Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Saturday stressed the need for fair pricing mechanism for sustainable growth of agrarian economy. He was speaking at an inauguration of 2nd edition of Livestock, Dairy, Fisheries, Poultry and Agriculture (LDFA-2012) exhibition and seminar organised by Sindh Board of Investment in collaboration with provincial Livestock and Agriculture Departments at Expo Center Karachi.
He said the agriculture sector was the backbone of the economy therefore the government was making all-out efforts nationally and internationally to promote this sector. He also urged the business community to maintain quality standards to earn more profits and explore lucrative international markets for its exports and added that the open door police was the only way to achieve sustainable growth for the country.
Moreover, Khuhro said the true potential of livestock, dairy, fisheries, poultry and agriculture sectors in Sindh was yet to be exploited and events such as LDFA 2012 provide the platform to ensure that more such interactions between potential buyers; business community and value chain providers were facilitated on regular basis to further explore new markets, increase exports.
He further said the provincial government endowed immense importance and set ambitious targets to pursue investment opportunities, which were available in these sectors by focusing on value addition and export. Provincial Minister for Fisheries, Zahid Ali Burghuri said that the livestock, agriculture and fisheries were the backbone of any agrarian economy and Sindh government was taking all sorts of measures to bring technology in these sectors for more results.
Shehla Raza, deputy speaker, Sindh Assembly said that LDFA 2012 would prove to be an effective platform to achieve all the objectives for growers and farmers to get awareness in this regard. Secretary Investment Younus Dagha said the objective of LDFA 2012 is to promote unconventional and unexploited but highly potential sectors of economy such as livestock, dairy, fisheries, poultry and agriculture.
He said that dairy, livestock and agriculture sectors have been the foundation of some of the progressive economies of the world. Pakistan in general, Sindh in particular has vast potential for modern and technology driven practices, he maintained. Horse & cattle show, bird show, ornamental fish exhibition, dog & pet show, ostrich exhibition and flower show were also arranged on the sidelines of the main exhibition and seminar.
