Power situation is still dismal despite improvement in fuel supply to thermal units in the system. Sources said Pepco is facing a shortage of about 5,000MW, causing forced closures after every hour in the urban areas. The situation is quite problematic for rural consumers where long-hour forced closures have become norm of the day.
Industrial consumers need power supply more after having a flat decline from the SNGPL to supply gas during the ongoing high demand season. All industrial sectors, particularly textile industry, have queued up at respective Discos for maximum supply of electricity to the production units. However, they are yet facing acute shortage during the peak hours. Pepco sources said situation is likely to improve with induction of hydel generation to the system in a day or two that would add about 6,000MW on the generation end. It would ultimately ease down demand side, they added.
