It is a matter of great pleasure for me to extend warm felicitations to the Federal Board of Revenue and Pakistan Customs on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of International Customs Day on 26th January 2012. Pakistan joins World Customs Organisation members in celebrating this important landmark as this day affords us an opportunity to reaffirm WCO's mission of enhancing effectiveness and efficiency of Customs Administration.
There is no doubt that Karachi Customs Agents Association is the most proactive Association in Pakistan having about 2900 members who are playing a vital role in a accumulating the budget targets fixed by FBR time to time.
Pakistan Customs has also taken number of steps towards automation as to improve efficiency, the policy of taking all stake holders on board will certainly bring a positive change and the effects of automation will trickle down in our economy, as a matter of fact the purpose of automation is facilitation, transparency and reducing cost of doing business. The theme of this year is "Divide Borders Custom Connects" clearly emphasises on concentration towards the facilitation of legitimate trade and restricting the contraband and smuggling among borders.
The international trade practices have under gone a major change in the globalise economy. This change has brought significant change in Customs Operations and its role in the changed scenario. Customs apart from being a revenue collecting agency is also responsible for facilitating the International trade and protecting the society. All the objectives of a vibrant Customs Administration can only be achieved if there exists a strong and positive partnership and a shared vision between Customs and the Businesses involved in the International trade and International supply chain. In the end, I once again on behalf of myself and Karachi Customs Agents Association pay my gratitude and well wishes to Pakistan Custom & World Custom Organisation on World Customs Day.
