Bill moved in Sindh Assembly: 5,800 contract teachers to be regularised

Sindh Education department has decided in principle to regularise the jobs of 5800 contract teachers working in various districts of the province, Business Recorder learnt on Wednesday. The decision was taken during a meeting held under the chairmanship of Senior Minister for Education Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq at his office a few days back, sources said.
The meeting reviewed the overall performance of contract teachers and decided that a bill would be drafted for the final approval from the Sindh Assembly, sources said. Later, a team of officials of the education department drafted a bill in consultation with law experts of provincial law department, sources said. The education department recommended the Sindh Assembly to regularise 5800 contract teachers working for last three years with good performance, sources said.
The officials of education department submitted the bill at the office of Secretary Sindh Assembly, Hadi Bux Buriro for further processing, sources added. Reliable sources inside the Sindh Assembly told this scribe that the bill of education department would be included in the agenda of current assembly session.
The Sindh Assembly session has been continuing for last many days and resumed today, Wednesday after a gap of only two days. Sources said that 5800 teachers including High School Teachers (HST), Junior School Teachers (JST) and Primary School Teachers (PST) were appointed on contract for three years. The education department had extended their contracts for six months on the completion of previous contract, sources added.
The six months contract of 5800 teachers would be completed on 31st January 2012, and the bill will give approval to the Sindh government to make regular their jobs, sources said. The 5800 contract teachers have registered their strong protest in various districts with demand of regularisation of their jobs.
