Governor Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the Shahabuddin Market and five-storey Parking Plaza here. Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Muhammad Hussain Syed, and Municipal Commissioner, Matanat Ali Khan, were also present on the occasion, a KMC statement said.
Governor stated on the occasion that the project would be completed on time. He said that this would help resolve the outstanding problem of the shopkeepers and would also help solve the parking problem in Karachi's Saddar area.
Dr Ishrat said that this would also help shopkeepers start their business at the earliest. Muhammad Hussain Syed informed the Governor that the first phase of the project would be completed by December this year and 176 shopkeepers would be shifted to lower ground floor in a phased manner.
He said that on the ground floor 130 shops would be constructed which would be auctioned. As many as 159 shops would be constructed on the mezzanine floor. At Shahabuddin Market, space is allocated for offices while five floors would be for parking. A new and spacious mosque would be constructed besides the Shahabuddin Market with space of 1,500 Namazi. The expenditure on the phase one of the project would be Rs 735million.
