A 40-year old woman Riffat Shaheen asked the government to provide protection to her family and direct the authorities concerned for early recovery of her looted valuables. Shaheen was divorced five years ago. She is serving as a teacher in a government school for the last 23 years.
Talking to Business Recorder, she said that on October 14, 2011, when she was sleeping with her daughter, mother and grandfather at her home, two masked men came at 8:30pm, carrying arms and stared beating them, as a result of which the hand of her mother was fractured. Meanwhile, mask of one of them got off and he was identified as Abid s/o Mohammad Afzal r/o Fazal Abad Katas district Chakwal.
"We started crying for help on which the neighbours and police gathered on the spot, but the offender had escaped with about 5 tolas of gold worth Rs 350000 along Rs 50,000 in cash," Shaheen added. The police brought sniffer dogs, who also pointed out the person named above as the offender; however SHO Mohammad Ashraf declined to take action against the criminals. Instead of taking action against the criminals, police took in custody my uncle Mohammad Azam and pressured him for reconciliation, she added.
"We went to the SSP Kashif Mushtaq and put forward our demands on which he directed the police to take prompt action against the criminals. On November 15, 2011 one month after the incident, police registered FIR against the criminals and booked Abid," she said. However, he was released on bail for two months. On expiry, he was booked again and now is in jail; but police failed to recover my valuables from him.
