Punjab government has released a special grant of Rs 20 million for the repair and renovation of Lahore Museum's building. Punjab Communication and Works department will complete the project by June 2012 while services of renowned architect Nayyer Ali Dada have been acquired for technical assistance, disclosed an official here on Tuesday.
It may be mentioned that the museum administration sent a comprehensive PC-I to Chairman Board of Governor/Chief Secretary Punjab for the repair and rehabilitation of the museum building. The Chief Secretary after advice of Communication and Works Department sent the case to the Punjab Chief Minister who issued instructions for the immediate release of a special grant for this purpose.
After the approval of PC-I, the Communication and Works Department gave the tender of the project in the press and the repair and renovation work was started. Repair and renovation of Lahore Museum building will be completed in two phases. In the first phase, the general gallery of the museum has been closed to public and repair work has been started while in the second phase Islamic gallery and central gallery will be repaired and renovated.
