Meteorological department has predicted more rain with snowfall over the hills, over upper parts of the country on Saturday/Sunday. Director General Meteorological department Dr Mohammad Arif told Business Recorder on telephone on Thursday that a westerly wave is likely to approach western parts of the country on Friday night.
He said under the influence of this westerly wave, scattered rain with snowfall over the hills is expected over north-east Balochistan (Zhob, Quetta, Kalat divisions) on Friday night and Saturday. He said while scattered rain with snowfall over the hills is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions), Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and Islamabad. More snowfall is also predicted over the hills of Murree and Galliyat on Saturday/Sunday, he added. Dr Arif said that there would be 10 to 20 percent less rains during 2012 winter.
In a weather advisory for farmers, the Met office has said that in Punjab mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of the province until 20th January. However, plains of Punjab including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan and Bahawalpur may experience moderate to dense fog during morning hours. Mostly cloudy conditions with isolated light to moderate rain/light snowfall over the hills expected in northern parts of the province including Potohar region, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Lahore divisions during the period of 14th to 15th January.
It said mainly cold & dry weather is expected in most parts of the country on Friday. However light rain/snowfall over the hills at few places may occur in north-east Balochistan. Severe cold wave conditions would persist for the next two days in upper & central parts. Foggy conditions are likely to prevail in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkwa and Sukkur division. Lowest temperature recorded in Kalam -15, Sakardu -13, Parachinar & Astore -11 c.
