Pakistan Muslim League (Likeminded Group) headed by Hamid Nasir Chattha Wednesday said that it will support a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani if tabled in parliament. Talking to journalists after party's central executive committee meeting, chairman PML-Likeminded Hamid Nasir Chattah told reporters that elections should be held in the country immediately.
He said problems faced by the country could only be resolved if elections were held immediately. "What we need now are free and fair elections. That is what the people are asking for. The government has miserably failed to deliver and for this we must press the regime for early polls", he added.
The major public sector institutions like PIA, Railways, Pakistan Steel Mills etc are at the verge of collapse and there is only one way out to rid people of the prevailing atmosphere of hopelessness and frustration, which is early elections. He said that we will not accept elections under President Asif Ali Zardari and stated that in categorical terms that polls should be held under a neutral and independent election commission to make them credible.
He said it was the responsibility of the entire country to stand up against the government and ensure that no one could play with their mandate. He said the responsibility of ousting the government rested with the public, adding that no institution should make such a decision.
The current controversy after the Supreme Court decision which gave the government six options to implement on the verdict of National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) has further deepened the political quagmire and it is becoming difficult for the government to get out of it without taking some concrete decisions.
